“Pending” and “Granted” amateur radio licences

We have had a query re licences and when they are legal to use.

Once a person has paid, the ACMA on line Register of Radiocommunications Licences (RRL) shows “pending”.

Is the licence legal to use then, or does a licencee have to wait until the RRL shows “granted”?

We put this question to AMCA, who advise that:

If a person has paid for the licence, but the Register of Radiocommunications Licences (RRL) shows ‘pending’, the person may still use the licence – the RRL is updated every 24 hours, so there can be a delay between the actual issue of the licence and the appearance of that licence on the RRL.

The key point is that the licence has been paid for, and that the licencee has evidence of payment.
