News from AMC on RPL

The Australian Maritime College (AMC) – the ACMA’s outsourced exam and callsign recommendation provider, has provided the following information on RPL, which they have asked to be disseminated widely.

Amended Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) instructions

Under certain circumstances, exemption(s) may be granted from one or more subjects in an amateur operator examination if a person holds equivalent, or higher, qualifications covering the appropriate portion of the relevant amateur syllabus. RPL is dependent upon a number of factors, including the type of qualification and the time it was conferred.

After discussion with ACMA, the procedures for RPL were recently amended as follows:

Interview

Before arriving at a final decision, the appointed assessor may require the applicant to undergo an oral interview on all aspects of amateur radio theory, regulations and practical as part of the process of arriving at a formal determination.
